From South Ken to Shoreditch, from Jermyn Street to Mare Street – these days anyone that’s anyone is wearing red trousers.

If you want your leg-coverings to let the world know that you’ve got a few quid and don’t care who knows it, or that you have some big ideas about what’s on at the ICA right now - or simply that you are completely insane (but in a mainly non-stabby way) - then you’d better get your wife or girlfriend to take those jeans and chinos down to the charity shop post-haste!

Because there’s only one type of trousers you’ll be wanting to wear, and that’s RED TROUSERS. In fact - if you can’t wear red trousers you’d be better off wearing NO TROUSERS AT ALL. That’s what I say.

Bracae Rufae Universitatis Oxfordiensis!

The photographer explains that the man seen sporting RTs here is "one of Oxford's most venerable academics".

Judging by the youthful pallor of the back of his neck and the fluffy bit of hair at the top, I'd say he was more of a wally undergraduate. Can anyone in Oxford confirm or deny?

  1. Obviously a new tick! We seriously well-qualified Oxford fellows would not wear such ordinary trousers - I am currently taking it easy in some livid pink cords with ducks embroidered on. This shows why I was such a successful academic and moral tutor to the particularly wayward.

  4. Oh dear, that's embarrassing. "Oxfordiensis" is, however, used as a cod latin species name (so it seems from google) so I'll let it stand...

  5. I know this gentleman. He is indeed a noted academic and a thoroughly nice chap with a good knowledge of port.

  6. There is, however, an actual academic with a penchant for reds: Prof Charles Spence...

  7. It's definitely Alexander Reut-Hobbs, a fourth year New College classicist.
